Barbara Lowenstein started her publishing career at the Sterling Lord
Agency as an assistant to the dramatic agent. She then moved
on to Lancer Books, one of the last independent paperback
houses, where she started the first line of trade paperbacks
in the industry. There she published self-help, psychology,
how-to, crafts and cooking titles. A brief stint as Director
of Subsidiary Rights made her realize that starting her own
literary agency would allow her to combine her editorial skills
with her gift for selling: thus was born Lowenstein
Associates in 1976.
Barbara is known throughout the industry as an intrepid world traveler.
Her far-flung journeys to such remote spots as Nepal, Tajikistan
and Irian Jaya allow her to combine her love of adventure
with social and human interaction. She's currently looking
for leading experts in their field, including women's issues,
business, psychology, health, science, and social issues,
and is particularly interested in strong new voices in fiction
and narrative non-fiction. |

Madeleine Morel was born in England and moved to New York in 1977.
Her love of books has led to a life-long career in publishing.
Prior to coming to the United States, she worked for Angus
& Robertson in London in both sales and editorial. In
1977, she was invited to join Delilah Books, a small cutting-edge
publisher in Manhattan, as Publicity Director. In 1982, her
varied experience in all areas of publishing led Madeleine
Morel to establish 2M Communications
Ltd, a literary agency specializing in non-fiction
titles.
Madeleine has a particular fondness for non-fiction since it allows
her to create ideas in-house and to work extensively with
both established and first-time authors, developing outlines
and proposals for presentation to the major publishing houses.
She is particularly skilled at introducing professionals to
collaborative writers. |
